I'm on a road trip for some family business and am driving from New England to North Carolina. Here's a note from lunch today. I tapped the original out on my iPod and used cut and paste to move it over to here.
Stopped in today at the Blue White Grill in downtown Martinsburg, West Virginia. It offers an excellent salection of classic diner foods. Maryland's just a few miles away, so I got the crab cakes. Sixties tunes like You Really Got Me played in the background, juke-box style.
The decor is white with powder blue trim and probably looked much like this when established in 1958, save for a ceiling fan with indigo blades and a quartet of matching blue lights. A mobile consisting of a pair of vinyl 45's dangled from a string.
A pretty girl with a wet tangle of brunette hair, packed nicely into a tight white blouse and denim short-shorts, walked by. I wondered what her life is like. Later I saw her talking to a young man at a back table and it sounded like she was looking for a job. No surprise in this economy.
